Anonymous asked: when you had an arsenal sgl 21 what did you think of the polymer furniture? did the butt pad feel good or did it slide around? do you prefer wood? does wood or polymer feel more hot after shooting?
I like the polymer, the kvar us made stuff is okay, if you can get surplus plum polymer it’s better. It just feels better. The buttpad is the same as a wood stock AK, it’s ribbed metal. it’s fine. I don’t like rubber buttpads cause they stick to gear and clothing and cause more trouble then they are worth. Wood is a better insulator of heat. I like the way russian wood fills the hand. Actually bulgarian wood is nice too cause it’s solid, but nothing beats russian laminate.
All that being said I wouldn’t put wood on an sgl21. It looks stupid with a 90 degree gas block and a 74 style brake. I still have a bulgarian 74 with polymer, and my aks74 has a wood forend, my tula akm has all wood too.
I prefer wood stocks in the end just because they are better for smashing peoples faces in with than polymer.
